Teaching Practice Week -8

This week has been a dynamic and enriching experience at school, filled with a variety of activities, lessons, and preparations. Here’s a glimpse of the key highlights from this week’s teaching practice:

 Kalolsavam Practice and Exhibitions
The Kalolsavam practice continued in full swing throughout the week, with students preparing enthusiastically for their events. In addition, preparations for the science and mathematics exhibitions were underway, particularly for the students who won at the sub-district level. The energy and excitement of both these events added a vibrant atmosphere to the school.

 Teaching Highlights
This week, I focused on delivering engaging and interactive lessons, especially in my physics and chemistry classes. Some of the key lessons included:

  • Physics (Class 8E): I used ICT-based models to teach the topic Earth as a Magnet. Students responded well, showing curiosity and engagement. A student even brought magnets from home, which provided a hands-on learning experience for the class. The incorporation of real-life examples and digital aids made the learning process more enjoyable.

  • Chemistry (Class 8B): I covered the concepts of Endothermic and Exothermic Reactions and engaged students in activities to deepen their understanding. There was also a focus on revising previously taught concepts, ensuring that students were confident in their grasp of the material.

Co-Curricular Involvement
In addition to classroom teaching, I participated in several extracurricular activities this week:

  • Kerala Bharat Scouts and Guides Food Fest: I took part in the food fest during the first period, which was a great way to connect with students outside the classroom. It also showcased the diversity of activities happening in the school, beyond academic learning.
  • SMART Goal Setting Session: Along with my fellow teacher trainees, I conducted a session on SMART goal setting and motivation for Class 10 students. It was a meaningful interaction where I shared personal experiences, focusing on the importance of intrinsic motivation and setting achievable goals.

 Classroom Dynamics
This week, classroom management was an ongoing challenge in some lessons, particularly with students involved in Kalolsavam practice. Despite these distractions, I implemented strategies such as hands-on demonstrations and interactive teaching aids to keep students engaged. I also rewarded active participation with small tokens, which helped boost morale and classroom discipline.

Building Relationships
This week strengthened my relationship with the students as well as my fellow teachers. The Kalolsavam and exhibition preparations allowed me to see different sides of the students' talents. The integration of co-curricular activities with teaching helped foster a deeper connection, showing how creativity and academics can go hand-in-hand.

Overall, this week was a productive one, filled with both academic and co-curricular activities. The highlight for me was witnessing the students’ growth—not just in the classroom but in various creative and practical fields. As I move forward, I will continue to refine my teaching methods to ensure that every student remains motivated, curious, and engaged in their learning journey.

Looking forward to the upcoming week with more exciting lessons and activities!
