Teaching Practice Week-6
This week of teaching practice at HSS Chettikulangara was a blend of busy school activities, classroom challenges, and personal growth as a teacher. From Kalolsavam practice to PTA meetings and school construction, the environment was bustling with energy.
The week began with a focus on completing the lesson plans. I taught two lessons in chemistry for 8B on chemical changes and thermochemical reactions. The students were attentive for the most part, and I managed to complete the lessons as planned. However, there were moments when maintaining their focus was a challenge, especially with the background noise of ongoing construction work. In between teaching, I also helped serve in the midday meal program.
On Tuesday, Kalolsavam practice picked up, and we had to monitor students preparing for their performances. I also had a substitution period in 9B and taught a lesson on atmospheric pressure to class 8E. Classroom management was tricky since some students were distracted by the upcoming cultural events, and a few even left for practice. I had to send a couple of students outside for causing disturbances. Nonetheless, the majority of the class interacted well with the lesson, which was encouraging.
Wednesday was a different day as the focus shifted to school-wide activities. The NSS and Swachh Bharat banner awareness program was conducted by Peet Memorial Training College students for class 8B during the 5th period. I assisted in organizing this, and students watched a short film and awareness video. It was a valuable session, and I gave chocolates to the students who participated in the cleanliness program. I was also happy to welcome new B.Ed. trainees from Kunnam Mavelikara College who joined us for their teaching practice.
Thursday was packed with more Kalolsavam practice, construction work, and a PTA meeting for classes 8E and 8B. Although I didn’t take any lessons, I supervised a substitution period. The atmosphere was lively, and managing the class amidst the distractions proved to be a challenge. The students were excited about the cultural programs, and many had to leave the class for their practice. Despite this, I made sure to keep the rest of the students engaged.
The week ended with a busy day of activities, as the State Achievement Test took place. I assisted in invigilation for class 9C and monitored students during the test. Kalolsavam practice continued, and I spent time with the students participating in the NSS Swachh Bharat program, giving them encouragement for their efforts. It was a rewarding day as the students responded well and showed a positive attitude toward their responsibilities.A surrounding cleaning programme and an awareness class on Swachh Bharat was conducted under the banner of NSS.
