 Hostel Onam Celebration: A Night of Tradition, Fun, and Togetherness

On September 9, 2024, the spirit of Onam filled our hostel, transforming it into a hub of celebration and joy. As the clock struck 8 PM, we gathered together to embrace the festival, with everyone contributing to make the night memorable.

Our festivities began with setting up the Pookalam, a traditional floral arrangement that adorned the entrance, radiating vibrant colors and symbolizing the harmony of the occasion. Many of us took part in the preparations, and the energy around us was infectious. The hostel was decorated beautifully, thanks to the collective effort of all, creating a warm and festive atmosphere.

The evening’s events were kicked off by the second-year B.Ed. students, who brought the celebration to life with a soulful mashup of popular Onam songs. Their voices echoed through the room, filling everyone with nostalgia and pride for our cultural roots. Then came the graceful Thiruvathira performance, where dancers elegantly moved to the rhythm of traditional tunes, embodying the beauty of this beloved dance form.

After the performances, we gathered for a sumptuous dinner. The menu was simple yet satisfying, featuring fried rice, chicken curry, and custard. Sharing the meal with friends, surrounded by laughter and conversation, made it even more enjoyable. The food wasn’t just nourishment; it was a reminder of the communal spirit that Onam fosters.

Once dinner was over, the games began! We unleashed our competitive spirits in lighthearted games like lemon and spoon, musical chairs, and the always-entertaining biscuit eating contest. The laughter was unstoppable as everyone, regardless of skill, joined in with enthusiasm. These games brought us back to our childhood days, where the simplest activities sparked the greatest joy.

By the end of the night, there was a strong sense of togetherness. This Onam wasn’t just a celebration of tradition, but also of friendship, unity, and the beauty of shared memories.
